CASTEL-DI-IERI....Abruzzo....

Is a small medieval village, one of a group in the mountains of Abruzzo.

The roads are wide and excellent for travelling and always kept clear in winter. it is three quarters of an hour away from...L'Aquilla, the capital of Abruzzo...a large sophisticated town, with parks, beautiful architecture and 90 fountain spouts! Sulmona, another large town is half an hour away, again interesting and steeped in history. Beautiful piazza edged with restaurants and shops. Pescara is three quarters of an hour away, is the nearest airport town, and has 6 and a half miles of sandy beaches, which are kept scrupulously clean. a large busy town. Further along there are little villages and coves. Castel-di-Ieri is absolutely stunning, being on the edge of the national park. in the summer it stays green and lush. Winter is cold but sunny. The ski resorts are approx. 1 hr. away. The village has 2 bars and one restaurant, owned by English speaking Italians, who cook lovely food at very realistic prices. they open from 7.30 a.m. onwards.

There are well stocked shops in the village, selling lovely fresh vegetables and local produce. The village is facing high mountains and the people are very friendly and welcoming.

A surprising amount of them speak English. Rome is 2 hours away. Florence 2 and a half hours away.
